Product Description

Please note: this Zulu (1893) Black Hardcover Bible uses traditional, historical isiZulu.

This is the 1893 translation, so some words, expressions and sentence structures may feel unfamiliar if you are used to contemporary isiZulu. A similar example in English is the King James Version (1611), whose older wording can be a challenge for modern readers.

This Bible is for churches and communities who prefer the traditional 1893 wording for services and religious use. If you want an easy-to-read, modern isiZulu Bible, look for the 2020 translation instead.

This edition is a classic pew-size Bible with a durable hardcover, gold text foiling, an attractive typeface, readable font size and high-quality Bible paper. It offers excellent quality at an affordable price, ideal for churches and ministries buying in bulk for outreach and discipleship.

The translation was begun by American missionaries (ABCFM) who arrived in Port Natal in 1835 and were the first isiZulu Bible translators. The first complete isiZulu Bible was published in 1883, with a new edition in 1893. Newer translations followed in 1959 and 2020.
