If you want to take a more permanent color route, try the below:
The mugs can be used as is, or can be colored using acrylic markers or any permanent marker suitable for use on glass or ceramics.
After coloring with Markers, the mug should be placed in a cold oven, set to 200°C, and bake for 20 minutes. Let the mug cool in the oven.
After this process, the colored mug is dishwasher friendly - the color should then be scratch- and water resistant.
Note that the outside of the mugs will have a matte finish to encourage adhesion of the markers.
